CIVIL DEFENCE (CDF/104)
Updated 20 August 2024
Introduction & Objectives:
The Civil Defence Course is a collaboration between St. John Brigade and SCDF, to provide members knowledge in Civil Defence skills such as fire-fighting and emergency preparedness. Members will undergo both theory and practical lessons, hoping to put them into practice in times of emergency both in school and at home.
To align with the Community First Response framework, the Civil Defence course which comprised 5 modules will be streamlined into a two-tier structured programme. This structure equips responders with Emergency Preparedness skills and knowledge that matches with their expected level of response in the event of an emergency.
The content of the course is also trimmed to focus on core life-saving skills and essential emergency procedures with greater emphasis on practical hands-on engagements. This will aid participants’ understanding, improve their memory retention and most importantly, allow them to practically apply what they have learnt to help others during emergencies.
Badge Guidelines:
Attend and successfully complete the Responders Plus Programme (RPP) organised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
More info about RPP:
Currently, each class size is about 20-50 pax.
The classes are available every day, including the weekends, but due to limited trainers and venue, booking of classes must be made in advance and subject to first come first serve basis. If you could arrange sessions that are weeks in advance, dates would be relatively available.
The duration of the class is about 4 hours, and SCDF can conduct 2 classes each day (9am to 1pm & 2pm to 6pm). However, as mentioned, advance notification will be required for us to prepare the training resources.
Additional things to note when attending RPP:
The First Aid modules are for basic awareness and do not lead to accreditation. Only a certificate of participation will be provided, which should then be used as supporting document to apply for this badge via the St John Portal.
The RPP date given is subjected to changes in the event of any internal commitments.
It is strongly recommended for all participants to come for the class in long pants / jeans and covered shoes as it will be more conducive for the practical sessions.
All participants are encouraged to bring along a pen, notebook and water bottle for the classes.
All participants are also reminded to be punctual for the lesson.
The following topics will be covered during RPP:
Essential Emergency Preparedness Knowledge
First Aid
